Meg Bennett, an award-winning screenwriter and actor who rose to prominence on "The Young and the Restless," passed away, her family revealed on Sunday. She was seventy-five.
In her obituary, which was initially printed in the Los Angeles Times, Bennett's family stated that she "lost her battle" with cancer on April 11.
Bennett was best known to viewers as the gorgeous brunette Julia Newman from the venerable soap series on CBS. She portrayed Allegra Montenegro on "General Hospital" in 2005 and Megan Richardson on "Santa Barbara" in the 1990s.
Bennett was able to pursue a fulfilling career in filmmaking as well. She started writing scripts for television shows like "Young & the Restless," "General Hospital," "Santa Barbara," and "The Bold and the Beautiful" after that.
Bennett was nominated for five Daytime Emmys in the writing category. She was a member of the writing team for "General Hospital" that took home the 1995 Daytime Emmy Award. She was also a nominee for honours from the Writers Guild of America, where she won for "General Hospital" and "Sunset Beach."
Born on October 4, 1948, Helen Margaret Bennett attended John Muir High School while growing up in Pasadena. She majored in acting at Northwestern University after graduating from high school. She was a contestant for Miss America and the homecoming queen. She travelled to New York to seek an acting career after graduating, and she quickly found work as a model, becoming known as the "Cadillac Eldorado Convertible Girl."
Bennett finally had her breakthrough in the entertainment industry when she was cast in the off-Broadway musical "Godspell," which she also sang in. She made her Broadway debut in "Grease" and started her soap opera career as Liza on "Search for Tomorrow" in 1974.
She went back to Los Angeles in 1980 and started working on "The Young and the Restless." In 2020, she had a brief cameo on that programme.
She first got to know her husband, former head writer Robert Guza Jr., on "General Hospital". Bennett leaves behind her spouse as well as two stepdaughters, four grandchildren, a brother, a sister, and a number of nieces and nephews.
