Even before it officially launched, Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department is smashing Spotify records. One day before the project's midnight release, on Thursday, April 18, the streaming service revealed that the album's countdown website has surpassed its record for the most pre-saves.The announcement came after the countdown page was unveiled on March 28 and allowed Swifties to observe as the seconds counted down until the release of Tortured Poets on April 19. Since then, Swift's merchandise links and enigmatic movies that correspond to hints given at her outdoor library project in Los Angeles have been added to Spotify's page.
Swifties were able to visit the pop-up earlier this week, which is filled with books, figurines, dried flowers, enigmatic mailboxes, and a display case that changes every time a new album line is revealed. "One less temptress, one less dagger to sharpen" and "When she was leaving, it felt like breathing" are just a couple of the latest revelations.
Undoubtedly, Tortured Poets' page has received a lot of pre-saves on Spotify; the amount hasn't been disclosed. Given the success of her 2022 album Midnights, which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for six weeks and won album of the year at the 2024 Grammy Awards, Swift's eleventh studio album is one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
